YouTube Offering Online Symphony Contest
YouTube has announced plans for a YouTube Symphony Orchestra which would bring together aspiring musicians, composers and conductors.
For the contest, musicians have until January 28 to submit 2 entries per person, displaying their talents and variations on the works of the award winning ‘Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragon’ composer Tan Dun.
A group of worldwide experts will judge which videos are the best and YouTube users will vote on the winners, which will be announced March 2.
The winners will be flown to New York in early April and participate in a 3-day workshop in Carnegie Hall, headed by the conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and a performance at the Hall on April 15. Tan called this his first Internet Symphony No. 1 — Eroica.
This effort represents a global initiative by YouTube collaborating with other famous musicians such as pianist Lang Lang, the London Symphony, and others.
The goal is to bring classical music closer to people’s attention, and especially the younger audience.
