Although the economy is struggling, Twitter co-founder Evan Williams didn’t accept a reported buyout offer by Mark Zuckereg’s Facebook of $500 million. Williams became Twitter’s CEO in October and immediately had to decide whether to sell or not. This is similar to the dilemma faced by Yahoo’s CEO Jerry Yang who turned down Microsoft bid worth billions.

In contrast to Yahoo, Twitter is still growing, whereas Yahoo was hit hard ever since Google became a significant market player.

Twitter has expanded its appeal as a micro blogging platform, including being used during the US election by both voters and the candidates as well as by some victims who were trapped in the Taj hotel in Mumbai during the terrorist attacks.
