Random House to Digitize More Books
While e-book sales have been growing, Random House has announced it will be making thousands of books available in digital format. The effort is meant to extend the company’s reach to readers beyond the printed version.
Random House already has 8000 books in a digital and is planning to have almost 15000 books in the near future. This project is expected to be finished in a matter of months. Excerpts will be available online using the publisher’s Insight browsing service.
Sales of e-books have increased by triple digit percentages this year, significantly due to Amazon’s Kindle reader. However, printed books still account for 99% of all books sold, at this time.
