AT&T and rental car company Avis Budget Group announced an agreement recently that would allow travelers in the US to rent vehicles fitted with satellite TV service. AT&T’s satellite TV service, called Cruisecast, is set to air at the end of March, with 22 TV channels and 20 radio stations.

The system will be costly, $1,299 plus installation, with a monthly service fee of $28. Vehicles will also have to already possess in-car television capacity. The collaboration with the rental car companies should bring the service to a larger audience. The service will be available at several Avis and Budget Rent A Car locations in the U.S. for $8.99 a day.

The current electronics show has a wide focus on in-car entertainment. On Wednesday, Audiovox announced it would make an in-car receiver for Qualcomm’s subscription-based mobile TV broadcasts to bring a version of Audiovox’s MediaFLO TV service for mobile phones to rear-seat entertainment systems. The service is expected to be available toward the end of 2009.

For its part, Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally described in a speech at the show various new in-car electronics and features, including the possibility of integrating third-party software and services, such as a website like Facebook.
