New, Better-Fitting CFLs To Be Unveiled
While CFL light-bulbs are highly efficient and much better for the environment than their traditional counterparts, they’re sure not convenient to use — oftentimes, not fitting in standard fixtures. If you are, like many, sick of compact-fluorescent light bulbs that do not accommodate your fixtures, help is soon on the way.
General Electric is set to unveil a fresh new CFL light-bulb that offers up the equivalent sizing, appearance and fit as traditional bulbs, which also features all the benefits of current CFLs.
Typically, the problem with regular CFL light-bulbs is that they possess a plastic encasing around the neck which contains the microelectronics which make the bulbs work properly. This casing’s structure causes the neck of the light-bulb to be physically broader and frequently lengthier than the necks found on standard incandescent light-bulbs. GE has managed to shrink that technology, and therefor was able to create the new CFL light-bulbs.
The new bulbs, which are of course, sheltered by a multitude of patents of invention, are set to be brought to Canada sometime in mid to late 2009. At first, they are to be brought in as a 15-watt product – which will produce same level of brightness as a 60-watt traditional light bulb. Afterward, GE is expected to introduce CFLS of the nine-watt and 20-watt varieties.
