MySpace is joing with Google to broaden the reach of MySpace and counter the expansion of Facebook.

The partnership is intended to allow the MySpace login system, called “MySpaceID, to be compatible with as many websites that wish to offer it.

Google is also offering a similar service as both companies are trying to increase their user base.

The 2 companies collaborated previously to promote the OpenSocial service which also battled Facebook’s online software applications.

Facebook is also offering a unified service,”Facebook Connect”, which would allow personal profiles and favorite applications for its users to be shared through various websites.

This approach would eventually turn MySpace and Facebook into marketing hubs as they assemble more information about their users. Google is also interested in gaining some of the advertising potential behind social networks.
