Facebook and Google are moving towards creating a unified way for its users to login to their and other sites.

Websites on the network may share parts of a user’s identity with access to profiles, friend lists, privacy settings, ratings, and more.

Google and Facebook are currently offering these services as beta, named Friend Connect and Facebook Connect, respectively. The goal would be to allow sharing of information across these sites without having to login multiple times.

For instance, When signing in, users can use a Google, Yahoo, AIM or OpenID account. In time, the information housed with one social network site will be easily propagated through other sites on the network, as specified by each user.

Clearly privacy and security are a main concnern and need to be addressed fully before widespread useage will take hold.
