A company called Boffins is producing a car key which will deactivate the user’s wireless phone when placed in the ignition.

Called, the “Key2SafeDriving”, the device is for the most part targeted at those adolescents who can not seem to break off the habit of talking on their wireless phone (or typing SMS messages), when they are supposed to have their hands at ten and two, with eyes focused on the road ahead.

The gadget uses Bluetooth technology to wirelessly connects the keys and phones. The phone then simply cannot be used while the ignition is turned on. The mobile phone’s screen will show a stop sign, and not allow use.

Sort of humorously, if the driver receives a SMS message or a phone-call, the phone will promptly answer with a message that the user is currently driving, and will be able to respond when the driver is safely at his or her destination.
