Conficker Hits Major University!
That pesky Conficker worm is at it again, having now compromised approximately eight hundred computers on the U of U (University of Utah) campus. The virus has infected just about every medical sector of the university, including their nursing, medical and pharmacy college PCs. Thankfully, patients of those departments can rest assured that their personal information was not accessed by the worm, as such information is stored on a secure server.
The university also states that they are in the process of cleaning the contaminated machines, and should be virus free shortly. Unfortunately however, the Conficker virus has often been known to reappear even after being deleted and removed from infected PCs
Conficker is of the botnet category of viruses and is thought to have infected over a million PCs worldwide.
