Amazon Announces Record Sales
Amazon, the online mega retailer, has performed better than most retailers by achieving the company’s best ever sales figures, with a record 6.3 million products sold for the Friday December 15, which is traditionally the best day for online shoppers. No details were available regarding the actual dollar amount generated from the sales, so whether a record in revenue has been achieved is yet to be determined, but any sign of good news at this point will be gladly broadcasted. Other retailers, mostly the traditional bricks-and-mortar variety, are not as excited with their sales figures for the holiday season, which usually accounts for 30-50% of total annual revenues.
Amazon’s success can be ascribed to reducing prices in line with the low cost chains such as Walmart and it could also have benefited from the difficult chilly weather that has affected much of the nation with shoppers choosing to shop from the warm comfort of their home computers.
The top 3 ‘holiday’ sellers this year for Amazon.com were the Samsung LCD 52-inch flat screen HDTV, the Apple’s iPod Touch, and the Nintendo Wii console.
