News is abound that computer giant Dell is looking to tap into the mobile phone market with a fresh offering of their own. This is a great way for Dell to diversify (it’s never good to place all eggs in one basket, even for Dell), as PC sales have been down during the economic uncertainty we are facing.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Dell has been in the prototype stage for over a year now, and are planning to have some of their smart-phones run on the Android platform by Google, while others will use the Windows Mobile OS. Also, at least one device — should it reach the production stage is thought to be a touch-screen phone, similar to the Blackberry Storm or Apple iPhone.

Dell hasn’t confirmed the production yet, and could still shy away if they decide that entering the mobile phone market now is an imprudent move.
